The term “capsule wardrobe” was popularized in the 1970’s by Susie Faux, a London boutique owner. The goal of her boutique was to sell minimalistic pieces that could easily be mixed & matched together. While it started to catch on in the United Kingdom, it didn't make its way to the United States until 1985. That is when designer Donna Karen launched her Seven Easy Pieces line. Her runway models were all dressed in simple bodysuits while adding different pieces of clothing to make a variety of outfits.
